Job description
The Department of Cognitive Psychology of the Faculty of Psychology and Education of VU University Amsterdam is supervised by prof. dr. Jan Theeuwes. Our main research focus is on the control of visual attention and eye movements.
Humans are social beings and every day we are confronted with a variety of complex biological stimuli such as facial expressions, gestures, body postures, and conversations that occur in a range of different contexts. The question of the present research project is how this type of information and the emotional states that they induce affect the guidance of visual attention in the environment. Knowledge of and experience with brain imaging, eye tracking, programming, and data analysis are recommended.
Requirements
The candidate has (or will have in the near future) a Master’s degree in cognitive psychology, physics, informatics, biology, or some comparable area. The candidate has a strong interest in experimental research in the area of visual perception and emotion; expertise in methods of research (including brain imaging); experience with empirical research and computer programming; excellent ability to write and read English.
Conditions of employment
Appointment will initially be for 12 months. After a successful evaluation the appointment will be prolonged for another 36 months. The salary is based on the salary scales for academic staff. The salary in the first year amounts to € 2.042,- gross per month, increasing to € 2.612,- gross per month in the fourth year, based on full-time employment.
